Anywhere take used antifreeze?

Post by DeerStew » Sat Aug 22, 2026 9:26 pm

I've asked at the transfer station before and they told me they don't take it, nor did they know anywhere else that would. There's got to be a better solution than just dumping it in the river eh?

Might ask at the Quality Lube place.

The hours are:

September 1st-May 31st Days of Operation 2ND THURSDAY of the month
June 1st – August. 31th Days of Operation 2ND & 4TH THURSDAY of the month
Hours 12:00 Noon to 3:00 pm

Thank you. Crazy that the transfer station attendant couldn't tell me that. Also super cool to to see the hours are exceptionally convenient for people that work full time jobs.

You just have to make sure your antifreeze is in an original container. I took some car fluids there once in jugs we had laying around because we didn’t have original containers anymore and they wouldn’t accept them on hazardous waste day. I was advised to dump the fluids into absorbent and dispose of them with regular transfer station waste.

When I called the xfer station about oil, (they are generally good at answering their phones in my experience. If they do not pick up, try again as there are not many there operating that facility and likely may be out of the office at the time,) anyway, I was surprised when the attendant informed me that they take most all of the fluids, but they must be separated. He did not mention original containers, but that would make sense to not bring antifreeze back in an oil container. Also I brought up the ‘only on such and such a day’ and he told me it doesn’t matter. So I would recommend trying to contact the transfer station again and get specific info on these comments b4 you head down there
