Can we borrow your heavy duty sewing machine?

Post by MethowRecycles » Thu Jul 02, 2026 3:30 pm

We're back with another ask: Methow Recycles is looking to borrow some heavy duty sewing machines, like a Singer Heavy Duty, a Sailrite, or similar. We will be needing these machines for collaborative work with the Sustainability Youth Corps -- we are doing a design challenge to design, sew, and build shade sails out of upcycled materials. The Youth Corps teens will be learning to sew in the process and we need some machines that can handle thicker outdoor material and webbing.

Machines will be used from August 3 - August 13.

If you have a heavy duty machine you'd be willing to lend to this amazing service-learning project, please email zoey@methowrecycles.org! 🙌

Bumping this back up -- we are still looking for one more sewing machine. If you have a heavy duty one you'd be willing to lend, we would greatly appreciate it!

I think fabricating custom made reflective sunshades for cars would be a worthy thing to do for another idea. A custom-made reflective sunshade for windshields could be made by one or 2 students.

Seems like this could be done like a car wash fundraiser is done and using cardboard with a reflective covering.
