Some folks routinely drive to Wenatchee or Seattle for their medical care. Many of us prefer care closer to home. Douglas-Okanogan Hospital District 1 (Three Rivers Hospital) provides excellent care for some of the more under-resourced members of our community, for whom driving to Omak or Wenatchee is a huge financial burden. I have watched all three hospitals in Okanogan County work together, particularly when obstetrics care was consolidated at Mid-Valley Hospital. This change did make it easier for health care providers and staff, but our patients in Oroville, Tonasket, Brewster, and Bridgeport struggle with time and travel costs. I routinely refer patients from the Methow to both Mid-Valley and Three Rivers Hospital. Supporting Three Rivers Hospital gives Methow Valley residents the luxury of choice (a stop at the Sweet River Bakery or an errand at Home Depot.) This support also offers continued accessible high quality health care for our valley and our neighbors to the south, who don't have the same luxury.

Vote Yes for the Hospital Bond.

I'm voting YES. I pay property taxes. I believe this is the lowest sticker price we'll ever see for a local facility that offers so much as Three Rivers.

There are two very factual and thoughtful "My Turn" columns in the Methow Valley News, one on each side of the issue. They can be read online if you haven't saved a copy.

Oct 2:
My Turn – There’s a better idea for hospitals in Okanogan County

Oct 9:
My Turn – Why we’re supporting the Three Rivers bond

MV News shows the wrong time on page 2 of last week's issue.
See you there!
