Robert Redford—Rest In Peace

Post by Solstice » Tue Sep 16, 2025 5:16 pm

Robert Redford passed away last night at the age of 89. He starred in dozens of memorable cinematic roles—a number of them connected to the West. Somebody said it was the reason flags are flying at half mast. I'm not sure.

We're going to watch The Horse Whisperer tonight.

He was one of my favorites, and also an excellent director, and documentary film maker.
The Horse Whisperer is one of my favorites, and also An Unfinished Life, with Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lopez. An excellent film. He had much talent, and he will be missed.

Definitely not the reason flags are at half. Although I'd say he better deserved it given his celebration, through his work, of the human condition in general and American in particular. The Candidate, Jeremiah Johnson, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (Who ARE those guys?!) and my personal favourite - The Natural. Class act who left the world a better place. May his memory be a blessing.

My wife and I randomly chose to watch Jeremiah Johnson last Sunday night because she had never seen it before and it had been some time since I saw it last. We talked about it Monday, comparing similarities in the movie with living off the grid in Methow and just how much we enjoyed our movie night. Then I looked at the news Tuesday morning and was hit with what I can only describe as eerie sadness, with Robert Redford's final scene in the movie burned into my minds eye. It's going to be a bit before I watch another Redford movie because I want to hold on to what Jeremiah Johnson left me with a while longer :) Rest in peace and thank you Robert Redford for what you've done for the movie industry both on and off the screen. And thank you Solstice for giving me a place to share this :)
