Contact Washington State Archives (509-239-7500) before you go thru the hassle of trying to deal w County Clerks, etc. They are very helpful and can often provide you with a document copy for free or certified copy for just a few dollars. (King County charges $30 fee to search, $40 to expedite and then wants to charge again if you want a copy.) They can find things like birth certificates, marriage/divorce records, etc.
