Rusty/corten/patina steel panels needed

Post by wanderlust » Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:27 pm

I am working on an outdoor shower design and would like to use rusty or antiqued corrugated steel panels for the walls. This stuff is everywhere in the valley but where do you all get it?

I don't need a super burly gauge, just the same stuff that shows up on new and old houses pretty much everywhere in the upper valley.

Dakota Tin has the type of product but ordering online is expensive and I'd rather give my money to a local business

Ideas?

The folks at Methow Lumber helped me order the heavier gauge non-galvanized corrugated sheet metal for my project. Here are some lessons learned: I didn't need the heavier gauge but it was the deeper channel (3/4 inch) look that I liked. I ordered a eight foot long section (it comes in 12 foot) but incurred a $75 dollar cut fee - they threw in the extra four feet at no cost. IN hindsight I should have just ordered a full sheet. The non-galvanized pieces that I ordered came shipped sandwiched in several useable sheets of galvanized sheet to protect the product. Cant rust the galvanized sheeting but its useable. That being said, Its not easy to cut for a typical homeowner/hack like me - I tried different blades / cutting wheels with a circular saw, and reciprocating saw. Its very difficult to get a smooth cut. And dangerous fire hazard due to sparks. To rust the surface I used the vinegar, hydrogen peroxide solution in a spray bottle that you can google - but once started that process begins rust that will not stop. If you touch it you will get rust on you! There are other methods to seal the rust or prevent further rusting. Hope this helps. I always keep my eyes open at Methow Recycle for the occasional piece in their re-use tent.
