Housing behind Hanks
There is going to be a public hearing Wednesday, January 15, at 5:00 in the Twisp Civic Building regarding construction of the 3 building, 72 unit planned development in case anyone is interested in knowing more.

In addition to learning more about the plans, is there a place to comment online or other way to submit comments, as I am not able to attend next Wednesday evening. Thanks!

The MV News, under legal notices for January 1st, entitled "Twisp Family Haven Planned Development" indicates the contact person is Thom Vetter, Town of Twisp Planner, 509-997-4081. Looks like a short window for comments, January 18th?

Re: Housing behind Hanks
Personally I feel that this is the wrong approach to try to correct the housing shortage in Twisp. There is a need that has to be addressed but too many projects have been shoved through that weren't a good solution to our town. Its our town. We should have a greater say in how it is developed. We shouldn't be burdened with traffic revision that is unapplicable, oversized public buildings that don't fit our livestyle, depressing public art and even to the food we ingest. Its nice to be asked and listened to.
A large dense oversized block of housing doesn't fit into the area. It reminds me of the low income housing in Seattle. Maybe something lower and more 'home-town' would be better. A good question to ask is, would I like to live there?

I was under the impression at one time Catholic Charities of Eastern Washington was going to hold a town meeting to answer questions. That never happened.
Re: Housing behind Hanks
Do go to the hearing and if there is a sign up for public comment, do so. The documentation is at the Civic Center, with the SEPA app, etc. I don't know about the elevation and plot plants but I would think the Town would have this too, if it has been developed that far. Would be nice to see where the roads are going to be.

With this many units planned, hopefully the meeting will cover the infrastructure
improvements that will be required.
It would also be good if there was clarification on who will qualify for these units and that they are planned for our local community.

From the article:
72 units. 48 of them “affordable.”
“Of the 48 units to be built as affordable housing, 24 will be for families and 24 for residents technically classified as homeless, including people who are living in a tent, trailer without hookups, or couch surfing.”
“Applicants must make 30%-60% of area median income ( $57,779 ) to qualify for affordable housing.”
Because the building is three stories, it is “outside of code” so the proposal would request and exception.
