Skylstad Family Haven Open House reminder

Post by cceasternwa » Thu Feb 06, 2025 10:56 am

Hello, just a reminder that my colleagues and I will be holding an open house this afternoon/evening at Twisp Works in the large meeting room on February 6th, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

We are holding this open house to engage with you and see what we can do to make this the best possible project for Twisp and the Valley. We want your feedback and your input! I hope to see you there.

Thanks,
Alex Reynolds

How about no project? Do we get a vote? The Valley has been dealing with social issues organically for years and making progress on a scale and an ethos that fits our community. Bruce Herron Wolf Creek

No Bruce, no vote. Goes to the Twisp Council and it most probably will be passed. This project will happen faster than other projects. Methow Housing Trust has done an incredible job. I believe they are working on the rental aspect, but it might not be for lowest income people. But it is a slow process, it seems.

Sadly, there was a poor turnout yesterday at the open house. I was one of 4 people who showed up to ask questions. I still have some significant concerns about this project and am not a proponent, but at least I have information directly from the source to consider. The 4 people who came over from Spokane answered all of my questions. And they gave me business cards if I have more questions. Was happy to see a representative from Room One there. Presumptively, this project is going to move forward, so community engagement with this project versus arm chair complaining really is in the best interest of the community moving forward. The way to get locals into the apartments will be to reach out to the existing service organizations we have here to make sure local applicants are on the approved waitlist when leasing for the units opens up. There will need to be a cooperative collaboration between CCEW and social service organizations in the valley to make that happen. If the project is approved, there will be more open houses. I would urge people to attend one and get your questions and concerns addressed.

I have noticed the habit of having any kind of questionable projects in the dead of the winter in the coldest darkest times. If you want lousy turnout and no push back, make it when people just can't force themselves out of a warm house. I hate this project and its a very very very bad one. The fact it has made it this far scares me. The only hope we have is for the City Council to think of the people who live here, the people who DON'T want it. To think of what it will do to our town and the makeup of a village in the true sense. Please do not pass it through. Please.

Thank you, Anne, for attending the Open House and sharing your thoughts. I was impressed with the CCEW representatives at the second Planning Commission meeting and thought they addressed all questions directed to them as accurately as possible. Most of the comments I heard seemed to be in favor of the project and the Planning Commission did approve it 5-0. We'll see what happens as the Twisp Town Council takes up the question of approving of the project at their February 11th meeting.

If I remember correctly, applications for residency will open 180 days prior to completion and CREW stated they would "market" to the local residents first. The existing CCEW apartments in the Methow Valley currently have 75 households on waiting lists—with months if not longer to even be considered.

I was glad to hear proper methods of locating and identifying Indigenous artifacts were already in place for other CCEW projects, something I hadn't considered but should have, given the location.

Yes, Anne, I like your approach and suggestions to keep it as local as possible.
Judy, the Town Council willl approve it.
I learned this with my involvement with Orchard Hills. They approved that; they will approve this.
