Running Parts Car FS $800

Post by biglakejudy » Mon Sep 07, 2026 9:21 pm

1999 Nissan Pathfinder
You can call it a statement car from the lack of mufflers
(makes it hard for the kids to sneak it out at night)
270K milage
(his sister Patti Pathfinder had 360K when she was sold, the gal painted her green with a brush and drove her a while longer)
Peter Pathfinder is rough on the edges but a sweetheart of an old man The packing tape back window has just been refreshed so its good to go. Dont have to be fussy with this fella, he's just a happy guy.
What can I say, its an 800 dollar car. Treat it tenderly and stay close to town.

When I was first married, we bought 50 dollar cars. Nashes and such. Now its 1,000. Hard to fathom.

Yeah, I've had a few $50 cars that were fine beaters. But that was decades ago. My general rule is that if it's under $2000 it might not get you home. There are, of course, exceptions.

The challenge is that modern cars (1980's and on) can essentially be totaled by electronic failures that have nothing to do with the mechanics of the drive train. Diagnostics alone can exceed the value of the car, and many manufacturers discontinue critical parts before the car is even 15 years old. I can keep an old Ford Falcon or Chevy Nova running forever, but I've had a Ford Focus somehow lose its brains so badly that the Ford dealer gave up trying to figure it out.

I really like these Nissan Pathfinders 1999-2002 They are almost bullet proof. Do have an electrical gremlin with the dashboard but what the hey. I usually have D.U.D.s Drive Until Dead. My younger daughter brought me a newer car. Thank you Chris.
