pecan trees in the methow valley

Post by brenttannehill » Mon Dec 29, 2025 7:11 am

Has anyone tried growing a Northern Pecan tree in the Methow Valley? According to the internet, they are cold-hardy down to minus 35 degrees.

Thanks

Hi Brent

For whatever its worth, I know there is an established and happy English walnut in the upper Chewuch. Produces great tasting walnuts. Might be an indicator that nut trees in general will thrive here......

My neighbor has the only chestnut tree (NOT horse chestnut) that I know of in the Methow Valley. Any others that you know of? I'd like to graft another variety onto it, since it's celebate and sterile.

I know of two Butternut (white walnut) trees in Twist. Shaped like a pecan, textured like a black walnut. We had one in Chelan but it wasn't hardy. Its on a rental property and doesnt get care. Breaks my heart. Taste like butter. Had filberts at the ranch. Lots of black walnuts around.
