Disposing of Old Cars

Post by gdufresne » Sat Nov 08, 2025 2:55 pm

I have an old car I want to get rid of. Where does one go or who does one call to dispose of an old car?

Title in hand
Decent tires
Starts but doesn't run

Leave response here.

I rented an aluminum car trailer in Twisp, and took cars to Shull's towing in brewster.
They take them for free, but the trailer rental costs about $55. Towing vehicle and towed vehicle need to be checked on U-Haul website. I actually towed two cars on one day, for that price.

You can donate it to a non-profit organization. Many non-profits will pick up your car free of charge to you, even if it does not run. We donated our old, non-running truck to Habitat for Humanity a few years ago.

if it is intact, running or not there are/were organizations that will take it off your property for free. I chose a veterans nonprofit to donate two vehicles. I was very clear that they were junkers, complete, but not operable and they were happy to take them. Not sure if those programs are currently still funded. I had one vehicle without a motor/transmission and I used Jackal to haul it off and was very happy with the pricing and scheduling
