Post by Slade » Mon Jul 21, 2025 2:05 pm

Lightning strike a little bit ago (MAN was that a loud bang) down hill from the communications towers.

Has the fire been reported?

Helos dropping buckets. Looks NNW of the communication tower. Smoke drifting SSE. I don't really like this sort of afternoon entertainment. Hope it can be knocked down quickly.

There was quite a crowd of us (incl a couple of smoke jumpers, by coincidence) watching the fire from Blue Star Coffee an hour ago. When I left, there was no firefighting activity yet, though it had been reported. Glad to read that there are helos dropping water.

It's still raining lightly down the Twisp-Carlton Rd. We got 1/4 " today, mostly in around 20 minutes. Power is out here, but that started before the fire. PUD doesn't know the cause yet or an estimated time of fix.

Good photo on Watch Duty. NNE of the tower. Calling it a Vegetation Fire. "No structures are threatened." 60 % humidity really helps plus only light breeze.

We were below the Newby Cr. ridge around that time but sure didn't hear the clap of thunder. Had been hearing it all afternoon. I wondered if there were any strikes that happened. Never did see strikes anyway.
Did not receive much rain up Twisp River at our place at all.
This moisture will help and hope they can get a handle on the fire. The crews are champs!

Our rain gauge, just north of the mountain, shows .12 inches of rain so far today.

Our rain gauge, a mile east of McClure, we got .25".

It was coming down very hard for 20 minutes or so.

This fire is now known as the Alder Creek Fire per the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).

Hopefully was... It appears extinguished from our vantage point. The light rain, low wind speed and humidity really helped the impressive helo drops of yesterday evening. Thank you pilots and support.

The irony is that our area has been impacted by wildfires over so many years that between the historical lookouts, the smokejumper resources and newer technology, it's become somewhat hardened. Let's not take it for granted or let our guard down. Late October is a long way off.

Jim, the final push was a 4-man USFS crew that got in there to line it and get it out. The helicopter was amazing and probably kept this from becoming a huge mess.
