I see a lot of Starlink dishes in the valley so I thought I’d post about my experience yesterday with my own dish.
Historically Starlink has favored connecting to satellites that are to the north, usually over Canada.
My outage rate had been rising, and I could see that my dish has been trying to connect more to satellites that are overhead or slightly to the south. This put a large tree canopy in the way, where it used to be out of the way.
I moved my dish to a place with fewer trees in the southern exposure.
After a day of data gathering, it’s clear that this is a better position. Further, the dish used to point slightly north and now it is pointing slightly south.
Bottom line: if you are having more obstruction outages than you used to, consider a location with a more southern exposure. I’m now getting almost no interruptions.
Feel free to contact me if this is interesting but unclear.
