This Tuesday's Signal & Form takes a deep dive into San Francisco's experimental music tradition — not as a nostalgia trip, but as a two-hour argument for why this one city kept producing such genuinely strange and ambitious music across six decades. We're talking tape composers, psychedelic rock as process music, punk, avant-metal, free improvisation, and chamber jazz, all sharing the same geography and often the same community.

Artists include Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, the Grateful Dead, Sly & the Family Stone, Dead Kennedys, Chrome, the Residents, Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Primus, Fantômas, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Secret Chiefs 3, ROVA Saxophone Quartet, Tin Hat Trio, Flipper, Deerhoof, and Xiu Xiu.
