The Shafer Museum welcomes people from all over the world each summer, in fact, last year we had 40 different countries logged in our guest book!
We invite our visitors to take a step back in time and understand what it was like for early pioneers to live in the Methow Valley over 100 years ago. In order to keep our buildings open and available to the public, we rely on our AMAZING volunteers to serve as museum hosts (we call them docents).
If you enjoy interacting with people and are looking for a great way to contribute to your community, consider becoming a Shafer Museum docent. No history knowledge is required, just a willingness to learn and be curious!
It's up to us to keep our local history alive! Will you support us and become a volunteer?

The Shafer Museum was started by a local General Store owner - Simon Shafer. His personal collection of pioneer farming equipment & tools became the origins of the Shafer Historical Museum. Our collection has grown since it first opened to include an impressive array of artifacts throughout 13 buildings. It's a fun place to hangout in the summer and a great way to stay connected to the local community!
Like learning & interacting with people? - Come VOLUNTEER with us!
