Break-In Incident in storage unit at Twisp Mini Storage
Break-In Incident in storage unit at Twisp Mini Storage
Thought it would be helpful to report a break-in incident in our storage unit at Twisp Mini Storage to alert anyone else who has a storage unit there. I received a call on 01/16 from a staff member regarding our lock no longer being on our storage unit.
When I went to go replace the lock, there was evidence of someone having cut into our previous lock (new scrapes and indentations on the hinge) as well as part of our lock on the ground. Once in the unit, I discovered that (2) of my 10x10' booths were gone as well as some evidence of someone having rummaged through bags located near the back of the unit.
The staff at Twisp Mini Storage do walk-throughs twice a week, but it might not hurt to go and check on your storage unit just in case.

Should also note that this was the Twisp Mini Storage location next to the Wastewise main office.

One more update: 2 stand up paddleboards were stolen from the unit as well.
One is a blue and white Pathfinder board and the other is a blue, white and black Degree Thirty-Three board.
If anyone sees either of these boards, please let us know.

Do you think they targeted the boards?

My son rented one of their units a couple of years ago and because he was gone on wildlands fires, he didn't check it very often. came to get his stuff = thousands of dollars of ski equipment etc and most of it was gone. The locks were fine but inside the unit the thief or thieves broke thru the walls dividing the units and over time, stole his stuff. Twisp Mini Storage gave him one month refund and so sorry charlies. No investigation done on how they got thru the other unit next to his. Was really a bummer as they just threw away some very meaningful memories too.

Does anyone know if break-ins and thefts are common in mini-storage places in the valley or has Twisp been particularly vulnerable?

Randy, My neighbor was broken into and a lot of his motorcycle gear taken. He happened to have one of those big round locks. There had been a rash of break-ins concerning those type locks. I wonder if they found a weak link in them?

I'm not sure what big round locks you are talking about. Some years ago, Kryptonite bike locks (also used with motorcycles) with the tubular keys were found so vulnerable to easy picking (not breaking) that Kryptonite recalled them and gave free replacements. I know, because I got one.
