I did a search, could not find any mention of the Flooded Parking Lot at the Winthrop
Post Office. What’s up with that? And the big hole in the middle where the thing called
the Drain is supposed to be! I remember seeing a paving crew redoing the surface last
Spring or was it last Summer. Why can’t the Post Office get the drain fixed so we don’t have to wear Hip Waders to pick up our Mail! Maybe hire a local Plumber with a Sewer Snake
to unclog the Drain. Any ideas, comments or reasons this is a continuing problem?

It is awful, not to mention unsafe. Every year "Postal Lake" reappears. I was told the issue of drainage is the Towns problem. The crater should be the responsibility of the GSA. My wife and I are considering applying for a mail box and being done with this annual fiasco. Bruce Herron Wolf Creek

According to the clerk this morning at the post office, the land on which the office sits is owned by a private individual. The drain is the problem, not the Town's problem, but the owner of the lands problem. I find it hard to believe that the US Government would build a Post Office on private land, But that is what I was told this morning. Bruce Herron Wolf Creek

When the parking lot repair / repave was done I asked the paving crew why the drain wasn’t being addressed. They indicated they didn’t have any knowledge of any work scheduled to do anything to the drain and proceeded on. I did see one day quite a while ago after it had been paved there was what looked like a young fellow ( high school age or someone in their early 20’s ) had removed the grate and was digging with a shovel ..I knew that wasn’t going to fix anything. They need to start over cut the surface of the parking lot and excavate to get to the problem or first have the same process used to clean out the storm water collection drains that was done earlier this year around town. It is a problem coming, someone is going to fall and or there will be an accident with vehicles sliding. I’ve never seen anything like this in a community before even remote locations where post offices are !

Property is owned by Western Postal Realty Holdings LLC according to the County Assessor's Office. Their office is in New York. It was sold by Parr Financial USPS in September.

The owner is Western Postal Realty Holdings LLC. Address is 75 Columbia Ave. Cedarhurst NY 11516. Figures it is not a local owner.

It is the Methow Center Short Plat #2. Parcel 3421110105. This is all on the tax assessor’s site. On District info it says to call City Hall.

It is the owner’s responsibility to fix the drain. However, was an engineered drain plan submitted to Winthrop and if so, who signed off on it?

It should have had an engineered plan.

Perhaps if enough local Winthrop USPS customers contacted them and notified them in writing about the dangers/hazards/risks that postal customers are having to contend with in order to use the post office that Postal Realty Trust has created by the negligent maintenance or lack thereof of their property they might be motivated to repair the problem. Just a thought.

Thanks so much for your comments and sleuthing about the “Lake Postal” situation!
I picked up my mail yesterday and the Lake had gone Dry! Amazing! Somebody did something.
Hopefully we can now leave our Hip Waders at Home!
