No, truly it isn't necessary - though comforting to some, old habit to others who post on public forums.

Low risk for private communities
Bots can and do scrape contact information from public websites. However, bots cannot access content posted within private communities that require a login. A bot would first have to create and authenticate an account, which is a significant barrier for most malicious bots.
