CSA / Local Organic Food Suggestions?

My family is interested in eating more organic fruits, vegetables, and meat. Bonus if local so we can support the local economy. But we are also very busy so convenience is a factor (ie: delivery or easy pick-up best). Anyone have suggestions on a good CSA or other local organic food connections? How about local meat?
Thanks!

Check out the Food Shed! They have a pick-up CSA-type option. They source locally and are great folks!!

Ditto. The Food Shed is an excellent resource for local, organic, seasonal, sustainable, delicious food, with a wide variety of produce, dairy, jarred foods, meat, fish and other. Conveniently located in Winthrop.

Channing Family Farm, about 3 miles up Twisp River, has storage crops like potatoes, carrots, cabbage, beets, shallots, onion, and garlic available starting now all through fall and into winter, organically grown. Some of their produce is available at local grocery stores but it's much more cost effective to buy from them directly and they can accommodate orders of any size. I've been buying from them since moving to the valley almost 10 years ago and their produce is excellent. The carrots are super-sweet, and there are usually several varieties of potatoes to choose from, as well as a couple of different kinds of cabbage. Pick up is easy; typically I call them to place my order and they call me back within a few days to let me know it's ready and the total price. I pick up the produce at my convenience in their cooler, in sacks labeled with my name, and leave payment at an agreed-upon location.

The above recommendations are all great. Our farm sells through the Food Shed and at the Mazama store and Glover Street Market as well as Thriftway in Winthrop. You can also find lots of fresh local produce at the Twisp Farmers Market every Saturday through the end of October.
If those aren’t good options for your schedule try contacting local farms to arrange a pickup, we often have folks pick up bulk quantities at our farm in Carlton.
Thanks for wanting to support local farms!

We raise grass fed beef in Carlton. It’s available through the Food Shed or by buying through us directly.

Hi! I'm planning on starting a small 10 week CSA next year. Info and sign up coming soon (I'll post on the bulletin board) but it will be a weekly box of mixed vegetables from mid July through September. Planning on doing pickups in Twisp.

I joined a group that has an agreement to glean fruit at orchards for the food banks after the pickers have been through. Gleaners get to keep 25% of what is gleaned collectively. The hours are 7-9am every so often. I have gleaned 3X at Smallwood farms in Okanogan this season picking peaches and apricots. Apple and pears are coming up.
Check with Room One, also Amy Clements, and Virginia Mason who runs the program from Okanogan Community Action. I got as much as 75 pounds of fruit in 2 hours and it contributes towards food banks. You can carpool too. Ripe fruit needs to be processed soon after picking.

The Methow Valley Farmers Market is a great option for buying directly from the Growers and supporting local neighbors. Shopping at the Market means you choose the actual piece of food that you want and, because there are so many options of who to purchase from, you can cruise around and find exactly what looks good to you. Plus you make someone's day and get a big smile for free!
