Flies getting bad?

Post by RandySea » Tue Aug 19, 2025 12:46 pm

We just started seeing a lot more flies inside our house and on our covered deck than we have seen all summer. I'm wondering if this is just us, or others are also seeing this.

We're 4 miles south of Twisp. All our windows and our big sliding doors have screens.

Not for us, 6 miles up Twisp River. I did have some flies in my cabbage patch-some kind of root fly, that has larvae in the ground, but my cabbage were big enough to survive that infestation. A daily squishing took care of that. They were inside my insect netting, so they had to have come from the ground.
Are there horses nearby? The fly traps work great, the kind where the flies go inside. The strips work but in the house...ugh.

So we should not talk about flies or they will enter our mouths?

Yes, Randy. I, too, have more flies, just seemingly starting in the last week. Keeping screens and doors closed, but they still seem to be getting into the house.

Three years ago, fires. Two years ago, bears. Last year, yellowjackets. This year, flies. Six more plagues to go.

SW of Twisp, no fly issue, but we are just getting over a mass little moth invasion.

However, the hummingbirds, finches, mourning doves, and magpies seem to have left for the season.

Out in the savage wilderness of Lost River we noticed a marked decrease in the number of hummers this year. Guess that wall on the Mexican border is pretty effective.

Going on its 8th year now... the lord of f*lies is still plaguing us all with alternative facts... what end is in sight but perhaps a mammoth Venus fly trap?
