Scary fire warnings for tonight

Post by RandySea » Thu Jul 31, 2025 12:11 pm

From NOAA just now with its Red Flag warning. Includes Methow and Okanogan valleys, and areas all around us:

Timing: 11 AM to 8 PM Thursday.

* Thunderstorms: Scattered thunderstorms with abundant lightning.

* Outflow Winds: Outflow boundaries near storms will bring
potential for erratic wind gusts 30 to 50 mph and could travel
quite a distance from the core of the storm.

Impacts: Very warm and dry conditions will be in place as storms
develop Thursday afternoon. A mix of wet and dry thunderstorms
combined with dry fuels may lead to new fire starts that could
overwhelm initial attack capabilities. Gusty outflow winds could
may result in rapid spread with any new starts.

This is the especially scary part.

Just had a cell miss us and head north towards the main Valley. (from Twisp River)

Is there a news blackout on the Stud Horse fire this morning? Still Level 3 evacuation? The smoke seems to have dissipated so that's a good sign...

Hope occupants and responders are doing OK.
