Calling All Aquanauts: Citizen Science, Diving, & Freshwater Exploration

Hi neighbors,

I’m Grant—new to the valley, longtime diver and marine ecologist. I’ve been exploring local lakes and rivers by paddleboard and mask lately, and I’m blown away by the diversity of aquatic life here: fish, inverts, turtles, water plants, and complex habitats I can’t wait to document and better understand.

I’m looking for folks who might want to join in:

Freshwater scuba diving, snorkeling, or freediving (with down-line safety systems if needed)
Underwater photography (including species ID for iNaturalist)
AquaBlitz-style surveys – low-key group events to record lake biodiversity together
Possibly PADI dive instruction – if there’s interest, I’m qualified to teach courses up through Master Scuba Diver and Divemaster, including popular specialties like Nitrox and Peak Buoyancy.

For now, I’m just testing the waters—literally and figuratively—but I’d love to find a small group of people excited to explore and learn. If there’s enough interest, we can plan a few AquaBlitzes around the valley this summer.

(Quick note: the nearest gear rental shop is in Wenatchee, so let me know what equipment you have or need—we’ll work it out.)

If this sparks your interest, I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s go see what’s under the surface.
