Tuesday, May 6, 2025 AM
• The commissioners talk with Andy Bertapelle and Sandy Johnson from Mid-Valley Hospital. The hospital missed the deadline to fill a vacancy on its Board of Commissioners and Washington state law requires that the county commissioners fill it.
• The commissioners adopt Ordinance 2025-3, lowering the speed limit to 35 mph on Twin Lakes Rd. between the intersection with Hwy. 20 and just past Liberty Bell High School, a distance of about 1/3 of a mile.
• James DeSalvo, Executive Director of Methow Trails, briefs the commissioners on a proposed new ski trail near Mazama. DeSalvo would like the commissioners to agree to amend the lease between the county and the WSDOT to allow the trail to cross the Hwy. They are agreeable, but Commissioner Hover would not be in favor of summer-time use of the trail because it could affect the mule deer population.
• Meeting adjourned at 12:00.

Tuesday, May 6, 2025 PM
• Approval of new lieutenant position to assist chief deputy of corrections following case made by sheriff
• Corrections chief seeks technology to compensate staff shortages– commissioners to move forward on:
o replacing current baton system for checking inmates’ location with wristband-cellphone system offering more detailed and verifiable data (meals taken, presence at recreation) at cost of $32,000 plus $9,000 annually
o ankle bracelets monitoring vital signs to be placed on inmates undergoing drug withdrawal or at risk of suicide
o cell ceiling fixtures to monitor vital signs, will enable monitoring of individuals who haven’t already been classified as at-risk and eliminate need to waken prisoners every hour to check on them at night as required by law
• Commissioners Timm and Neal agree on jail upgrades as money well-spent; Local Assistance and Tribal Consistency (LTAC) a possible source. Timm alludes to trip Neal may take to Washington DC, presumably to lobby against cuts in rural funding
• Commissioners’ Clerk announces 5% reduction in Affordable Housing grant
• Meeting adjourned at 3:12
