There have been observations of unsafe behavior at the gun range. Here are some basics:
1) NO ONE is to go beyond the tables when the range is hot. Hot means that there are loaded weapons either in someone's hands, on the table, or in a holster. One would think it obvious that this also includes when someone is shooting, but apparently it has to be said explicitly.
2) To make the range cold, ALL weapons must be cleared of all ammunition, muzzles pointed down range on the table with the actions open, and all shooters have stepped back off the concrete. When everyone has complied, then it is safe to go to the target area.
3) The range must remain cold, meaning hands off weapons, until everyone has returned behind the concrete.
4) Even though these seem like onerous rules to follow if you are the only one there, safety requires practice.
5) Muzzles pointed down range at all times until the weapons are cased to remove them.
Yeah, yeah, I've heard it all before. You've been handling guns since you were sucking on a bottle and dad always said dry firing at your temple was perfectly fine (I think he was trying to tell you something). These safety standards have been developed over years of people injuring themselves or others. If the standards are followed, nobody gets hurt.
Please be safe out there.
BTW, the range used to remain open during fire season as long as everyone ONLY fired no further than the 200 yard line, but some folks insisted on shooting further out and sometimes lit the brush on fire, so now the range just gets closed.

Re: Gun range safety
Thank you for the post. Perhaps if someone on their next visit can print and post this at the range as a friendly reminder. I appreciate safety at PUBLIC ranges. I’ve seen too many mishaps by inexperienced and experienced shooters happen.
Re: Gun range safety
Well said Bob. Thank you
Re: Gun range safety
I did post the rules, but just on paper, so I suspect they will only be there temporarily.
