Spokane TV rebroadcast into the Methow
Spokane TV rebroadcast into the Methow
I read that Spokane TV stations are rebroadcast into the Methow Valley and can be picked up by just using a standard antenna. I live near the Mazama Store and I haven’t had any luck using a small HDTV antenna. Any advice?

Yes, some channels are available over the air. Search for "Methow Valley Communications District" online for information about broadcasting services. I am a couple of miles south of Mazama beneath Lucky Jim Bluff. The transmitter is on Grizzly Mountain which is line of sight for me through some trees. I picked up a cheap antenna at the thrift store that gives me a few channels (when the weather is good) including PBS HD broadcast (some channels are still in Standard Definition SD). But, I'm lucky with this. You need a good antenna, preferably an exterior mounted directional HDTV antenna. If that's not possible, an interior amplified antenna could help. The one I have is amplified.

Thank you. It’s good to know a signal is present - so I’m not wasting my time! Sounds like I need an amplified antenna. The one I have is not.

There is very useful info on the Communications District website.

There is also contact info for getting advice for you location and type of equipment.
We have an outside antenna made by RCA that we've been using for years. We've got it pointed at McClure and get great HD signals from 7 or 9 channels. I don't remember exactly how many, as mainly we use it for PBS. It costs now around $70 from Amazon and was originally recommend by Paul Brown at the Communications District. He was very helpful to us and our neighbors.

Hi,
Please contact me for help if you have any questions (include your physical address): tech@mvcomm.org
Reception as far out as the Store can be difficult and will require a UHF-only outdoor antenna and probably an amplifier. Antenna recommendations are here:
mvcomm.org/recommended-antennas-and-boosters/#Grizzly_Antenna_Recomendations
The area near the store would be classified as at least "farther out".
