Weekly Summaries--
Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 AM
• Commissioner Neal tells the others about his trip to Olympia last week. The state has just sworn in new state-wide officials, and the state legislature opened its 2025 session.
• Commissioners go into executive session for 20 minutes under RCW 42.30.110(i)—potential litigation, inviting Albert Lin, Prosecuting Attorney and Esther Milner, Chief Civil Deputy Prosecutor.
• Pete Palmer, Planning Director, distributes the first draft of the revised Flood Plain Management Ordinance containing edits suggested by the state Department of Ecology. The commissioners will hold study sessions and hear suggestions from the Planning Commission before voting on the proposed changes.
• Tim Meadows, Maintenance Supervisor, tells the commissioners that the county has been overbilled for a Sunbelt temporary heat pump in the jail. They’ve been paying for a full year when the original agreement was to pay only for the months it was being used.
• The commissioners have a long discussion with Chad from DIVCO, an HVAC contractor, about the cooling system in the county jail. It doesn’t work property and there is no clear idea about how to fix it.
• Meeting adjourned for the day at 11:42.

• Public comment regarding lack of transparency on legal notices due to difficulty accessing them electronically on the website of the newspaper of record (Omak Chronicle).
• Noxious Weed update
o new weeds on list
o new grants for landowners
o new drone program
o possible requirement for treating gravel used on county roads
o aquatic weeds
o concern about Trump Administration funding freeze and how it will affect weed programs.
• LTAC (Lodging Tax Advisory Committee) Discussion
o history of structure of the committee and how projects are funded
o potential changes in board structure
o county parks and rec department
o interest in year-round aquatic center
o Port District pros and cons
o benefits of non-profit franchises.
• · Public Works update
o discussion about road issues with Catholic Charities proposed housing development in Twisp
o complaint about compression brakes on Orchard Hill Rd
o exemptions for trucks from emissions requirement
o discussion of other housing proposals in Twisp and projection that population of the town will almost triple in 5 years
o discussion about how Trump Administration funding freeze will affect public works projects.
