Our Generac is used as a back up to our solar, and we have batteries, but we are connected to the grid too. On these cloudy days we still don't run the generator because of being on the grid, but also have a masonery heater, that heats the house very well. We got a heat pump installed 2 yrs. ago and it is fantastic too. Kept our baseboards too, but have them off. Back ups to the back ups.
These are not small expenditures however, but more like an investment in our home.
