Who knows?-smoke

Post by Reapward » Fri Jul 24, 2026 6:43 pm

Where is the smoke coming from? The Kaiser, Oregon, a fire near Leavenworth?
We are a bit clearer 6 miles up Twisp River Rd. but looking downriver, Twisp doesn't look so good.
South of us, towards Black Pine Lk. did not look so good either.
Think I got the answer. Little Giant Fire outside Chelan. Other side of the lake, quite a ways from us.

.
When there are multiple large fires, regionally, it doesnt matter much what the wind might be bringing us. It amounts to just ‘general haze’.

We have large fires on 3 sides of us. And many new fire starts in Southern BC and SW Alberta from yesterday’s lightning.

Right. Looks like main Valley is clear. Twisp is on Purple Air not good at all.
Just signed up to the new Caltopo. Check it out. Pinpoint where you live, then you can branch out from there. Shows general conditions, wind speed and direction.

It's called the Natapoc Ridge fire near Chelan. I get live camera shots updated about every 2 minutes on Alertwest.live . Cameras all thru the west.
That's our smoke today folks, as well as some ash just outside So Twisp.

Actually, Natapoc Ridge is where a 24/7 live camera is located. The fire that resulted in such a surreal sunset and hazardous air here last evening has been named the Little Giant Fire. It's located in Chelan County, W of Nineteenmile Campground and the Chiwawa River.

There are photos of a dramatic pyrocumulus cloud from yesterday afternoon, a good portion of which likely funneled toward the Twisp area. Well over 10,000 acres and 0% containment as of the last update.

Yeah, what a light show. Went out around 8:30 and colors were purple, then this blood red, then the greens became a dark neon green, then some orange. No, I had not eaten or smoked anything funny.
Lots of little burnt needles and ash 6 miles up Twisp River on our deck and every horizontal surface this morning.

Jim, you're right. Just wasn't thinking right at that point.
Thanks
