Big Valley

Post by Reapward » Thu Jan 22, 2026 7:14 pm

Has anyone been skiing at the Big Valley recently? I was wondering how the set tracks are out there. I know they groomed today and since it hasn't been melting thought about trying it. Mainly interested in classic tracks, not skate skiing.
Thanks.

I’ve skied there a couple times recently and the classic tracks went most of the way down on the open field side of the loops, but disappears eventually and there are no classic tracks on the forested side of the loops along the river. Coverage is quite thin and rough going on the forested side. I’d say it’s good for a shuffle on a sunny day through the field, but not easy skiing. My dog has definitely still enjoyed it, and it’s nice to get outside!

We went out there today and right, it's rough and not easy skiing as you say. We used our metal edge touring skis on the tracks, which worked ok. We went way out and when the tracks ended, we went off across the fields toward the trees, and it was surprisingly good. We stayed on top for the most part, no collapsing.
And it was sunny!
