Fire Cloud NNW of Winthrop
Re: Fire Cloud NNW of Winthrop
Okanogan county fire information is reporting that there is a fire across Canadian border called dragon bravo fire . There is a Facebook post, and I got this from the comments…” Hi, we posted about this yesterday. There is a fire on the other side of the border that is blowing up and out of control. This is that fire. Would also like to remind you and others that we put a daily member reporting post up everyday.
Great photo and yes, it looks very scary and close when they are out of control up there. The border is only about 100 miles away from Winthrop as a crow flies.”

Presently, there are hundreds of fires burning across North America. I realize it's hard to keep them straight but the Dragon Bravo fire is not the fire across the border north of Winthrop.
The Dragon Bravo fire is one of two active fires in Cococino County AZ burning along the north rim of the Grand Canyon. The historic Grand Canyon Lodge and other buildings are a complete loss.

Oh my gosh, thanks Jim, you are correct. I was just learning about the lodge fire at the same time that I was reading about the fire up north. I appreciate the correction. Frankly, I’m in disbelief about the north rim lodge. We camped in the area and spent a night in one of the cabins. An absolute devastating loss. And all of the wildlife….we are heartsick.
Re: Fire Cloud NNW of Winthrop
The Canadian fire is the ‘Placer’ fire. It’s not far off BC Hwy 3, near the east entrance to Manning Provincial Park. Listed at 725 hectares earlier today.

Re: Fire Cloud NNW of Winthrop
I drive through the Princeton Osoyoos area at dusk last night. I saw valley level smoke, smudging, and poor visibility consistent with a fire to the west, likely the Manning Park fire. PM2.5 reading in Oroville were in the 250 - 350 range.
This valley smoke was likely not visible from Winthrop (which is 35 miles as the crow flies from the border, not 100 miles) as it was too low. Instead I saw the most amazing lenticular-type cloud, long and thin, clearly high altitude, and bright white, not smoke color. The cloud had many layers, like puff pastry or a croissant. It did not look like smoke or pyrocumulus at all. There were other much smaller and more typical lenticular-like clouds to the north and east.
I can send photos if asked. It would be interesting to see what Cliff Mass has to say about this cloud. Anybody know how to submit stuff to him?

Re: Fire Cloud NNW of Winthrop - Pacer Creek Wildfire
It's big and growing: https://wildfiresituation.nrs.gov.bc.ca/incidents?fireYear=2025&incidentNumber=K60922&source=map
Over 6,000 acres and zero percent controlled. "BC Wildfire Service reports that cooler temperatures on Monday helped with their fight at the Placer Creek wildfire. Today, ground crews will be focusing on securing a control line on the western and northwestern flanks to hopefully ensure the fire does not grow towards communities or the highway."
