Property Caretaker for Summer - in trade for space to live and build 2 kayaks

Post by LeifIlvedson » Sat Apr 19, 2025 12:33 pm

I am a reliable 48 year old man seeking a workspace to build two kayaks this summer - one for myself and one for Twisp’s own senior boat designer, Scot Domergue. We’ll be collaborating on the project in the space.

My trade with you would be free property caretaking in exchange for workspace and the ability to live on your property. Access to your house is not required.

WORKSPACE REQUIREMENTS
* Roof and walls needed (offers protection from the breeze, sun, and weather)
* At least 22ft of working space (one kayak is 18ft long)
* Power (120VAC)
* Access to water
* A level/smooth concrete floor would be a plus

LOCATION
Near Twisp - rural is perfectly fine. I’d prefer a quiet spot away from busy roads.

TIMING
I'd like to start using the space somewhere in June and be out by the end of September.

LIVING SITUATION
I’m from Trout Lake, WA, and will need a place to stay while working on the kayaks. Ideally, the property would have a peaceful, shaded area where I could camp. Tent-living suits me well as an outdoorsman. Happy to discuss details!

I’ve spent this winter in California near Joshua Tree as a property caretaker. A few of my accomplishments here: I've assembled a dome structure, troubleshooted a malfunctioning solar system, strung lights on the house eaves, caught water sprinkler leaks, and installed under-cabinet lighting. I’m used to simple living - there’s a water spigot here but no bathroom or shower, and I’m perfectly comfortable with that.

WHAT I CAN OFFER
* Property Caretaking – Reliable and attentive
* Lighting Design – A passion of mine
* Electrical Engineering – Versatile skills
* Solar Power
* CAD Modeling – For machined parts or 3D printing
* Basic IT Skills – Website building, WiFi setup, coding, etc.
* Labor – Happy to help with light manual work, for the exercise
* Brainstorming & Idea Generation
* Architecture Design – Experience with AlloyDG in Seattle
* Woodworking – Comfortable, though not a furniture-maker
* Photography & Visual Arts
* Welding – Including aluminum

MY APPROACH
I’m patient, detail-oriented, methodical, thoughtful, respectful, and quiet. I'm a designer - the melding of my engineering and artistic experience.

WHY TWISP?
Scot lives in Twisp. Building alongside Scot allows me to learn from his lifetime of boat design experience as well as deepen our friendship. If I built solo in Trout Lake, I’d miss out on that collaboration. Plus, I’m intrigued to connect with a new community!

REFERENCES
I have three references, who's names and numbers I can provide upon request.

If this sounds like a good fit, let’s chat and see why life brings us together. There may be a variety of arrangements made, and I'm open to any ideas you have.

My phone number is 5()9.6Three7.55eight3 (Please text first to establish connection.)

Cheers!
