Kayak Builder Needs Space in Exchange for His Skills

Post by LeifIlvedson » Tue Apr 08, 2025 5:26 pm

I’m seeking a workspace to build two sailing kayaks this summer—one for myself and one for Twisp’s own boat designer, Scot Domergue. We’ll be collaborating on the project in the space.

REQUIREMENTS
* Roof and walls needed (don't want to fight the breeze, sun, and weather)
* At least 20ft of working space (one kayak is 18ft long)
* Power (120VAC)
* Access to water
* A level/smooth concrete floor would be a plus

LOCATION
Near Twisp - rural is perfectly fine. I’d prefer a quiet spot away from busy roads.

TIMING
I'd like to start using the space in June and be out by the end of September or sooner if progress allows.

LIVING SITUATION
I’m from Trout Lake, WA, and will need a place to stay while working on the kayaks. Ideally, the property would have a peaceful, shaded area where I could camp—tent living suits me well as an outdoorsman. Happy to discuss details!

I’ve spent this winter in California near Joshua Tree, caretaking a property for four months. A few of my accomplishments here: I've assembled a dome structure, troubleshooted a malfunctioning solar system, strung lights on the house eaves, and caught water sprinkler leaks. I’m used to simple living - there’s a water spigot here but no bathroom or shower, and I’m perfectly comfortable with that.

WHAT I CAN OFFER
* Property Caretaking – Reliable and attentive
* Lighting Design – A passion of mine
* Electrical Engineering – Versatile skills, including coding microcontrollers for custom projects
* Solar Power
* CAD Modeling – For machined parts or 3D printing
* Basic IT Skills – Website building, WiFi setup, coding, etc.
* Labor – Happy to help with light manual work for exercise (nothing too heavy—I avoid injury)
* Brainstorming & Idea Generation
* Architecture Design – Experience with AlloyDG in Seattle
* Woodworking – Comfortable, though not at furniture-maker level
* Photography & Visual Arts
* Welding – Including aluminum

MY APPROACH
I’m patient, detail-oriented, methodical, thoughtful, respectful, and quiet. I'm a designer - the melding of my engineering and artistic experience.

WHY TWISP?
Scot lives in Twisp. Building together there lets me learn from his lifetime of boat design experience as well as deepen our friendship. If I built solo in Trout Lake, I’d miss out on that collaboration. Plus, I’m intrigued to connect with a new community!

If this sounds like a good fit, let’s chat and see why life brings us together.

My phone number is 5()9.6Three7.55Ate3 (Please text first to establish connection.)

Cheers!
