Town Hall Tuesday March 18, 11am-1pm

Post by ldsuhr » Sat Mar 15, 2025 1:28 pm

I am copying information from the Okanogan Action Coalition:

Upcoming meeting with a Newhouse staffer on March 18 at the Twisp Grange, 11 - 1!
Rachel McClure, our regional staffer for Dan Newhouse, has scheduled "mobile office hours" to hear specific concerns from constituents. She will then bring them back to the congressman. This is an opportunity to bring our issues forward in a thoughtful, cordial manner. We don't expect her to offer substantial responses, but we hope that she will hear us and convey our concerns back to Representative Newhouse. We encourage you to come if you can. If you plan to speak, focus on a specific issue that relates to you, your family or business. It would also be appropriate to address recent actions by the administration and approved by congress which will adversely affect the Methow Valley.

Please park downtown or in the grange parking lot. Do not park at the firestation or across the street from the Grange.

We hope to see you there!

Don't forget to mail your "pink slip" postcards to Trump at the White House on Saturday, March 15. More information here. White House address is The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW,
Washington, DC 20500.

I am not sure, but really any postcard can be used. The recommendations, taken from the website for the group Indivisible, are to write anything you want, or do something more artistic. Do not sign your name, but use something like “ Concerned .citizen, Registered Voter, Champion for Democracy, etc”. Ideally, we all around the world would postmark them today, but that time window has closed. So ideally get them in for a Monday pickup.
Address is:
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW
Washington DC 20500

I believe I heard today that sign up to speak was upon entering at 11am. Not info on time limits, although I am sure there are some.
That said, PLEASE COME even if you do not plan to speak. Total numbers are also critical!

In talking with the key community members helping Congressman Newhouse's representatives organize this event at the Grange Hall on Tuesday, there is wide spread agreement that this gathering needs to be respectful and peaceful. There will be a lot of pent up and justified anger at the Grange on Tuesday, but it will backfire spectacularly if that anger is openly displayed toward the two Newhouse Reps that will be there.
They will simply be doing their jobs, and our community needs to help them conduct their business with respect and thoughtfulness. We are requesting that there be no protest signs. If this is perceived as a protest, our voices will be lost in the wilderness and Representative Newhouse will be given the message that we here in the Methow are no better than the incivility we see in other communities . The best message we can send Congressman Newhouse is to show up in LARGE NUMBERS, and be respectful. A large, respectful crowd in the Grange Hall on Tuesday will speak volumes. Please pass this on to any friends that might show up. Recruit everyone you know- this might be the most important thing you do in the next four years. Dwight Filer, Twisp Valley Grange president

Why equate protest signs with incivility?
