We'd like to make a correction to the recent glass article published in the MV News. It was incorrectly stated to put your glass in your curbside recycling bin.
Please know that your glass bottles will not get recycled if you put them in your curbside bin! Why not?
👉️Your recyclables get compacted in the WasteWise trucks. When this happens and there is a glass bottle in the mix, the glass breaks. The glass pieces get lodged in other recyclables, contaminating some of the load.
👉️Glass in curbside recycling poses a safety hazard for our operations staff who process the recycling by hand.
👉️Our baler cannot bale glass. The glass just breaks.
When you bring your glass to Methow Recycles, it is collected in a large roll-off bin. When the bin gets full, it is hauled to Cascade Concrete for reuse.
THANK YOU for recycling right and for continuing to trust us as your community recycler!
Please bring your glass to Methow Recycles-- do NOT put glass in your curbside bin please!

Great clarification, thanks!! I overlook the Cascade Concrete facility and I'm not sure the glass actually gets reused, but I could be wrong. They have a stockpile of glass at the east end of the pit. Would be nice if they crushed and tumbled the glass for use as driveway base. I've seen that done and it's pretty nice. So, although the glass is not going to a traditional landfill, I'd like clarification on its reuse. I understand that glass recycling in the valley has always been a tough calculus. It has to make sense financially. Like Kramer hauling aluminum cans to another state LOL!
